The Decade of the Oak is a celebration as well as a call to action to help save and restore critically important oak habitats. From the lone oak in a backyard to the sweeping oak savannas that grace our landscapes, these gentle giants have stood their ground throughout the Pacific Northwest for hundreds of years. But they need our help.
Today, these are the landscapes where the majority of the human population in the Pacific Northwest live, farm, and recreate. As a result, these meadows, tree-dotted savannas, and dense woodlands are disappearing at an alarming rate. This makes them a top regional priority for conservation.
